By placing the resin in the vacuum chamber, the reduced pressure causes the air bubbles to expand and rise to the surface, leaving you with a clear, bubble-free cast.

Choosing the Right Vacuum Chamber for Resin Casting

  1. Size: Consider the size of the chamber based on the projects you’ll be working on. Small chambers are ideal for jewelry, while larger chambers are better for bigger projects.
  2. Material: Vacuum chambers are typically made from acrylic, aluminum, or stainless steel. Acrylic chambers are lightweight and affordable, making them suitable for small-scale projects. Aluminum and stainless steel chambers are more durable and ideal for heavy-duty use.
  3. Vacuum Pump: The pump’s power is measured in CFM (cubic feet per minute) and the ultimate vacuum level (usually in mmHg or inches of mercury). For resin casting, a pump with a vacuum level of at least 29 inches of mercury (Hg) is recommended to ensure effective bubble removal.
  4. Pressure Gauge: A pressure gauge is essential for monitoring the vacuum level inside the chamber. Look for a chamber that includes a high-quality gauge for precise control.
  5. Ease of Use: Consider chambers with user-friendly features like quick-release valves, sturdy lids, and clear viewing windows. These features make the process smoother and more efficient.

  9. Avoid Overfilling: Do not fill the chamber to its maximum capacity. Leave enough space for the resin to expand as air bubbles rise to the surface.
  10. Post-Degassing: After removing the resin from the vacuum chamber, pour it into your mold immediately to prevent new bubbles from forming.
